Dover, Post Township, capital of Piscataquis County, Maine, 83 North North East of Augusta, 680 W. Situated on the South side of Piscataquis River. Incorporated in 1822. The soil is fertile, producing good wheat. The village is beautifully located. It has 2 printing offices, 2 weekly newspapers, 5 grist mills, 8 saw mills, 1 oil mill. Capitol in manufac. $9,000. 12 schools, 733 scholars. Population 1,597. Complete Descriptive and Statistical Gazetteer of the United States
